Hello my name is Dorothy Markham
Since I was a young girl art has been part of my life. My Grandfather taught me at the ripe young age of 2 how to start drawing. When he saw a talent I had hidden in me, he began to have me draw more and more as I grew over the years. It is thanks to him I am the Artist I am today. Every weekend morning cartoons would be playing on the TV from Looney Toons to Disney Toons, from Nickelodeon to Cartoon Network...they were something always on. And if I missed it, because of whatever reason my Grandfather would record it for me and when I could we would watch them together.
When I reached High School people always told me to be an Art Teacher, because I had a great personality to deal with children. But that is not what my heart wanted. From when I was a young girl...even as my Grandfather was teaching me to draw. I wanted to make cartoons. I wanted to work on animated films. Of course, at that young, I did not know the work that went into such a film. As I went into high school I grew a passion for Graphic Arts due to a few classes I had taken. My teacher saw a passion that I had in them and began teaching me further into the field than what the class required, from making banners to web pages, CD labels, and more. I did end up going to college for computer animation and went back to college for my master's in media design where I learned more about animation and added to what I knew about graphic arts.
My family has been the biggest support in my life. They pushed me to be the best I could be in everything I do. They taught me there is no defeat if you do not accept it. I don't know where I would be if they did not believe in me and feed my Disney Addiction growing up. Besides my family helping my talent grow I had two wonderful Art Teachers whom I thank very much for believing in me and pushing me in Art classes. Thank you, Mrs. Hennessey, you helped my grandfather in molding my art skills at an early age and you continued to help me through the years. Thank you Mr. Shamalin, you pushed my talent the most in my High School years. You never let me do anything but 200% and you taught me so much more than I already knew.
I'd like to end this with a heart filled Thank You to my family... Thank you to my mother (Currie), my aunt (Patricia), and my grandfather (Lowell...whom I wish was here today to see the Artist I have become) for raising me and pushing me to be the best Artist I can be. Thank you to my dear cousins Tommy, Missy, Bubba, and Bryan who support me in all I do. Thank you to a dear friend of the family...Howard...you've helped me more than you may have known and someday I will repay everything you have done for me. Finally, my dear Fiancee thank you for putting up with my crazy art ticks and showing me that no matter what you will always be here for me! To my dear sweet Leilani Rose, Brooklynn Elizabeth, and my twins Ryder Lowell and Hunter Ross you kids will forever be my reason's to push forward every day you make me want to be the best mother I can be. To show you that no dream is silly and to follow your heart in life.
